The Track and Field staff at West Salem is excited for the upcoming season.
Last year was a growing year for many of our athletes. After amazing seasons in 2007 (2nd in State / Conference Champions) and in 2008 (3rd at State / Conference Champions), 2009 was a year for our athletes to step in and get some
varsity and big meet experience.
Both of our boys and girls teams ended up in 6th place in the conference, with eleven athletes qualifying for state
competition. 2010 has the potential to be a year in which the Titans again rise to the top in conference action.
Our 2010 teams return three current school record holders: JJ Campbell (Sr) in the Boy's 3000 meter run as well as
Carley Davis (Soph) in the Girl's Shot Put and Becca Liable (Jr) in the Girl's Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Our coaching staff has also added some new faces to the Titan family. Assisting in the sprints will be Mat Strum (a
recent graduate and 4-year track athlete at Linfield College), Cole Samuel (former sprinter at WOU and current student teacher
at West) and Katya Conn (recent West Salem graduate). Assisting in the throws will be fomer North Salem standout Beth
Dougherty.
These new coaches will add insight and experience to an already great staff at West. I look forward to keeping you
updated throughout the season.
