- Where can I find a copy of the 2011 XC schedule?
- Our 2011 XC schedule is still a work in progress but you can find a copy on
www.Athletic.net which covers XC/T&F for all of Oregon & beyond.
-
When is the first day of practice?
- The first official day of practice for all Fall sports is Monday, August 22nd.
- What type of running should I be doing during the summer?
- In general, any running is better than doing nothing. A general goal would be 150-250 min per week. Contact Coach Jimenez
for details about hooking up with our summer running group or if you want to setup your own training plan or receive the weekly summer
workout suggestions by email.
- I'm going to miss the first week of practice. Can I still run in the 1st meet?
- You will still need to have (15) practices prior to Sept. 8th. If you can run the workouts on your own & record them in
our online Training Log, I will count those as official practices. Contact Coach Jimenez for details.
- Where do we meet for practice?
- Great question. Everyone usually meets by the Field House (which is at the north end of the football field). Daily practice
starts at 3:00p (w a warmup run) and ends at 4:50p daily. I don't usually arrive until about 3:10pm since I teach at another school. The
team leaders will get practice started and be going through your warmup routine when I arrive.
- What is the hardest part of XC? What is the best part of XC?
- Honestly, the hardest part is the first couple weeks (getting into shape) & figuring out at what pace you should be training at.
The best part is that XC is the ultimate team sport... everyone plays, everyone matters!!!
- I haven't really ever ran before? Can I still do XC?
- Oh yeah, most definitely! Many of our first year runners had little or no experience to begin with & they would be the
first ones to tell you just how much fun XC is (once you get through the first couple weeks).
General
- What were some of the highlights of the 2010 XC season?
- Wow, great question! There were so many. The District Meet was awesome with everyone running so well as we won the Varsity Boys
again. The kid liked the North Marion Invite as they gave great tee shirts for top finishers and ran on a out and back, semi-fast rutted
trail at Mission Bottom for the most part.
Our XC invite, the Star City XClassic,
was much bigger (426 runners) and gave everyone a competitive jolt with some quality teams and custom tee shirts. Make sure to check out
our past results on Athletic.net.
Practice
- I'm a soccer player. Can I also run XC at West?
- Yes. S-K Schools recently adopted a 2-sport policy that allows athletes to participate in more than one sport per season. WSHS has
established guidelines which clarifies the process of doing both at the same time. Since XC will be your secondary sport &
involve you missing many of our practices and/or meets, you would most likely be limited to running in the JV meets.
- What is Moratorium Week and why can't coaches have contact with athletes during it?
- The OSAA (which regulates all HS sports in Oregon) has declared that the week of July 31 - August 6, 2011 will be the Moratorium Week
for this school year. It simply means that coaches or school staff can have no contact with athletes during that time. Complete
info on Moratorium Week can be found on the OSAA website.
Training
- What type of running should I be doing during the summer?
- In general, any running is better than doing nothing. A general goal would be 150-200 min per week. Contact Coach Jimenez
for details about the Summer Running Challenge or if you want to setup your own training plan or receive the weekly summer
workout suggestions by email.

Volunteer
- I'm a parent and would like to volunteer. What can I do to help?
- I am always looking for help at our meets. We will be hosting (3) meets in 2011 and will specifically need a lot of
volunteers for our invitational that we are hosting on Wed. Oct. 5th (volunteers get a free shirt).
- Wed. Oct. 05 - Star City XClassic (Bush Park) 3:00p
- This is our big fundraiser for the year. We need multiple people,
multiple places
- Wed. Oct. 19 - CVC Rivalry Meet (Geer Park) 4:15p
- We will need a few volunteers for the finish line and results.
Pretty easy stuff, you could learn in 2 minutes.
- Wed. Oct. 26 - CVC District Meet (Bush Park) 2:00p
- We will most likely be asked to supply 2 volunteers to help monitor course
Contact me by email or leave a phone message for me at West by calling 503-399-5533.
